The prequels took much more of a in-the-moment, modern, pop kind of vibe to them (each movie actually had a music video for the big track in each), delivering some decent ambient music throughout and one incredibly composed track that blows everyone away (Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars and Battle of Heroes), while barely a single theme was repeated more than once. All three of the original scores focused on introducing new themes and developing them throughout, meaning that by the end of RotJ, the themes are so ingrained in our brains that every permutation and development of the score was immensely satisfying and memorable. Don't get me wrong, they're all decent, but they couldn't be more different to the OT scores. The prequel soundtracks are also nothing like the originals. The Force Awakens' score is my favorite in the franchise. Also, what you think is your worst work, someone else may see as your best and vice versa. When it's the latter you do what you can but backtracking and rewriting will set you so far back. You get basically one shot with that amount of time and as a composer when I've been faced with hard deadlines like that I've either come up with my best work or my worst. At least there were a handful of standout tracks as you said, and I really wish there were more because it really took me out of some of the scenes when it just sounded like Star Wars parody, but it's really hit or miss.

If it didn't sound like Williams it wouldn't have that Star Wars feeling and he didn't have enough time to think about how he could keep that style with his own flare to it. I agree, but it's already enough pressure to write 2 hours worth of music in 4 weeks let alone for one of the biggest franchises of all time for some of the most well known orchestral music in existence.
